Need For Chaplaincy With Seniors
-
Senior
homes
have mushroomed in DuPage County in the past twelve years
10 out of 11 served built since 1985.
-
Older
adults like everyone have fundamental needs:
body,
mind, and soul.
- Qualified
staff attend to their body basics:
food,shelter
- Activity/volunteer
directors provide mental stimulation.
- Clergy
and lay ministers bring much-needed soul food.
-
Due
to philosophical values and fiscal constraints, senior homes
do not budget for soul food, expecting
the religious community to provide it.
-
Catholic
residents are well served by local parishs delivering
mass, rosary, and Eucharistic ministry.
-
Protestant
residents, however, are not being well served in 8 out
of 10 homes assessed.
Therefore,
a gap exists for professional, dependable, available, ministerial
services offered to seniors and their families.
Grace and Peace Chaplaincy
meets this essential need:
"care
of the soul."
