Need For Chaplaincy With Seniors

  • Senior homes have mushroomed in DuPage County in the past twelve years – 10 out of 11 served built since 1985.

  • Older adults like everyone have fundamental needs:
    body,” “mind,” and “soul.”
        - Qualified staff attend to their “body” basics: food, shelter
        - Activity/volunteer directors provide “mental” stimulation.
        - Clergy and lay ministers bring much-needed “soul food.”

  • Due to philosophical values and fiscal constraints, senior homes do not budget for “soul food,” expecting the religious community to provide it.

  • Catholic residents are well served by local parishs delivering mass, rosary, and Eucharistic ministry.

  • Protestant residents, however, are not being well served in 8 out of 10 homes assessed.

Therefore, a gap exists for professional, dependable, available, ministerial services offered to seniors and their families.

Grace and Peace Chaplaincy meets this essential need:
      "care of the soul."
